UK Cyber Security Group is working with leading edge Ukrainian and US companies to help secure our clients ( companies and government agencies ) and help them tell fact from fiction, truth from lies and fake people from real people.
It is becoming increasingly vital to analyse what leaders of countries actually mean and are really thinking when they speak and if they are truly the person they appear to be.
This is especially true with elections ( fake and democratic ) taking place in many countries of the world this year.
Working with ValiCor using the HEAT application this case study looked at one of Putin's speeches.
ABSTRACT On December 23, 2021 Mr. Vladimir Putin answered questions about Russia’s apparent build-up for invasion of Ukraine in a press briefing broadcast by CRUX. ValiCor US analyzed the broadcast using our H.E.A.T.: Human Emotion Analysis Technology application. It focused on Putin’s answers that addressed two critical areas: How does he justify Russia’s attempts to overrule Ukraine’s sovereignty in deciding which nations it will form alliances with? And Does Russia intend to invade Ukraine? The resulting data was clearly revealing in terms of Putin’s veracity. H.E.A.T. detected dozens of markers of deceit in Putin’s responses to these two questions. This is because H.E.A.T. technology goes beyond what is visible to a human observer (which is how Putin was trying to come across as he answered questions in the interview) by analyzing measures of involuntary facial expressions too fast to see with the human eye. That enabled us to assess of the credibility of what was being said because there are always predictable patterns of facial micro-expressions that emerge when someone lies to themselves or others. In this case, that “someone” was Putin. He told two big lies. The first big lie is when Putin tries to build a case that Russia is a victim of arrogant and exploitive behavior of NATO. His Flow charts indicate that he is lying. He not only doesn’t believe what he is saying, but underneath his assumed sadness, is massive fear and deceptive false happiness when he talks about being “duped”. The second big lie is about the Russian intentions for their troop build-up. He expresses outrage that Russia is so threatened by NATO’s supposed expansionist intentions that they have to mass hundreds of thousands of troops on the border with Ukraine to bring a halt to this exploitation of poor, gullible Russians. When he tells his second big lie, the facial expressions of emotion captured by H.E.A.T. give him away. Though he does a masterful job of conveying outrage, it’s undermined by the spike of fear that comes in the middle of his claim that he’s not threatening us (NATO and Ukraine). When he tries to cast NATO and Ukraine in the roles of the aggressor, he has a classic liar’s spike of defensive happiness. H.E.A.T. breakdown of Putin’s interview in the following analysis clearly demonstrates without a shadow of a doubt, using hard data, that Russia clearly is on the border of Ukraine with aggressive intent. They have a plan to annex more territory if not the whole country.
